A reader I know wrote the letter below, which was sent to the Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne. It presents the point of view of the parents, which is routinely ignored in the forming of the government policies in the area of education. It is very unlikely that Frances would receive a response. Our distinguished Premier has a tested way of dealing with the criticism of her catastrophic policies in Ontario – the critics are always branded “bigots” or “homophobes” unable to see that the walking disaster named Kathleen Wynne is the God’s gift to our province.
I have three grandchildren, one of whom, a boy, is 11 and is just finishing grade 6. He is bright and intelligent and extremely computer savvy — but he doesn’t text, let alone sext. Nor do any of his friends the same age.
When I look at the material that he would already have been introduced to if your sex ed curriculum had been adopted in 2010, I am shocked. For example I note the unscientific nonsense that gender is a changeable social construct, and a little boy could be a girl if he wants; this would have been introduced to him in Grade 3. Many teachers will be embarrassed teaching such lunacy and deal with it peremptorily. But there will be those who will pursue the matter aggressively, looking to really unhinge the minds of little children, especially those who are vulnerable and lacking in confidence. Some children may seek to gain the approval of such a teacher by imagining that they are ‘transgendered’ themselves, even though such a concept will be incomprehensible to such young minds.
I note also that my grandson next year in grade 7 may be introduced to the practices of anal and oral sex and oral-genital contact. Will there be pictorial or visual aids to made these lessons clear?
The sex curriculum would also seem to be teaching children who are below the age of legal sexual intercourse that it will be all right as long as they give ‘consent’. How could such confused and brainwashed children possibly hold their own against wily adult exploiters? And do all our children have to be taught according to the ideas of the two 13-year olds who organized that petition supporting the idea of consent? They wrote this as part of a class project, obviously under the influence of a ‘progressive’ teacher. No 13-year olds thought up that text themselves! Teachers can get results like this with inexperienced young minds.
I am truly reminded of passages in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World when I read this curriculum and the underhanded ways that it is being pushed on unsuspecting or unwilling parents.
When former premier McGinty withdrew an almost identical curriculum in 2010, a promise was made by the Liberals to consult extensively with parents before introducing a new curriculum. This has not been done in the present case. The consultation process has been a scam. i urge you to put this whole curriculum aside. It is not for you to override the beliefs and feelings of all parents in this province. If parents want to teach such ideas to their own children, that is for them to decide. Most will not.
